Charter School Student Breaks 47 Year Old Basketball Record
Leisa (Charter Vision) Originally published February 2005Cash Eggleston smashed a record set 47 years ago for the number of points made during a high school baskeball game in Minnesota on Wednesday, February 2nd, 2005. Eggleston, a student at Minnesota Transitions Charter School (MTS), located in Minneapolis, scored 90 points during the game.
The former record was set January 28th, 1958 by Norm Grow, a student of Foley, when he scored 70 points. Eggleson had that beat by third quarter. In the first quarter he scored 39 points, and at the end of the third quarter he had scored 82 points. By the end of the game, he had scored 90 of the 153 points scored by MTS against in a game against Community of Peace Academy, a charter school located in St. Paul. The final score was 153-69.
The 153 points scored by MTS was also a new state record. The former record for the most team points for a game was 146, set in 1958 by Atwater.
Of the 90 points scored by Eggleston, 60 of those points were earned by shooting 20, 3 point shots, another record. The most 3 pointers ever made during one high school game in Minnesota before was eleven. Eggleston beat it by nine.
MTS is part of the Central Lakes Conference and its basketball team is in its third year, with a first year coach, John Sherman. Sherman, a sports writer for the Sun, has never coached high school basketball before. The team is 18-3 this year and has scored over 100 points at nine of those games.
In addition to being a record breaking basketball player, Eggleston is also an honor roll student in his senior year at MTS. He volunteers both at school and in the community.
